My Mother's Day Card

Today I got flowers, a good nap before church, and some great cards from my family. My favorite was this card Dedan made at school. The whole card is formatted with a fill in the blank sentence and a place to draw a picture. The first page has my favorite drawing ("Say Mom"..."Mom") Ha! If only it was that easy!My mom is a cook. I love it when she makes chocolate chip cookies.

My mom is a nurse. She always makes me feel better when she tickles me.

My mom is a magician. She can always find lost things. Once she found my basketball.

My mom is a sanitation worker. When she sees my room, she says, "Pick up your room!"

My mom is a chauffer. She drives me to Disneyland.

As I click PUBLISH POST I'm going to get comfy in a chair, watch Grey's Anatomy on DVR and get my Mother's Day foot rub.

Hope yours was as entertaining!

What you've missed...

while I've been blog slacking...

We spent one night with the Randalls on our way home from Spring Break. Oh, how we miss hanging out with them! Kids are growing but they all still play well together, especially when Kelly makes brownies and gives everyone spoonfulls of batter. No wonder my kids love her.

Easter was full of all the usual: community egg hunt, new Easter dress, waiting at the top of the stairs, goodies, egg decorating, brunch at home, church, more egg hunting & turkey dinner at Grandpa's.

Emma got a "Twilight" pedicure - her dad's idea. Black toes with a little red apple. Yes, we're pop culture freaks.

Nash turned 3! We had a small celebration at our house after church with Nash's favorite neighbors, Mike & Dejah. Nash directed Grandma J.R. in every aspect as she made his birthday cake - the cake he had talked about EVERY DAY for a month. Notice all the sprinkles. Nash loves sprinkles.

Then he played so hard that he banged his head and got a small but deep gash. Mike helped convince him to put a bandage on by wearing one himself. We love Mike!

On his birthday Har & I took Nash park hopping at Disneyland while the big kids were in school. He got to pick all the rides and activities without having to sit around. We saw the Playhouse Disney show, stayed cool in the 100 degree weather and best of all got to meet Mater!

Dedan was running with Lula on a leash. She went one way around the lamppost, he went the other. Face meet sidewalk. A baby tooth popped out and you can see the cracked adult tooth above.
This was a Saturday. I left a message with our dentist, he called back to find out how he was doing and let us come in first thing Monday without an appointment. Then fixed it on the spot Monday.

Dr. Chris Ezzat, pediatric dentist. He rocks!!!

Streets of G.J.

Like many other places Grand Junction (and surrounding cities) number a good portion of their roads, but I think as the city grew and developed they had to throw in some fractions so as not to confuse people by transitioning from 17 Road to Jefferson Street and back to 18 Road. Perfectly acceptable practice...and a little unique in my experience.
...but then they get a little strange when they start giving the lettered roads fractions...
...and finally we get to complete insanity when we alternate lettered, fractioned roads with lettered, decimal roads. What is wrong with having a K 2/3 Road?

Just another charming part of this community that I love.

Spring Break: Family

Most of Har's side of the family lives in the Grand Junction area, so during our visit we got to see his parents, both grandmas, aunts, uncle, nieces & nephew, counsins, cousin's girlfriend, old high school buddies....and the list goes on.
Harland's grandma, Jessie, is a tough and feisty ol' girl farm girl. Everyone gives her a hard time. EVERYONE. I think she's 80 and she just quit her volunteer job after more than 14 years as a "foster grandparent" in a daycare where she was working with 2 and 3 year olds. Tough. She kind of reminds me of a female Walter Brennan, especially if you've seen his character, Stumpy, in the John Wayne movie Rio Bravo. I love Grandma Jessie!
Our last night in town lots of the fam came over for one last visit. It was one last chance for Har to teach his favorite card game: GOLF (if you don't know how, give us a call and we'll schedule a game night). And thanks to a suggestion by Harry (we'll call him an uncle) we made s'mores. Just like our whole vacation it was the perfect night!

Thank you to all of our Grand Junction family and friends. We had a great time and we miss you guys. Hopefully, our next visit won't be too far off. Love and big fat hugs!

Spring Break: Snow Angels

This is about half a mile up the mountain from Powderhorn at the base of a sledding hill where we might have tried sledding if we had gloves, warmer jackets...or sleds.

Spring Break: Powderhorn

One of our first mornings with no plans, we kidnapped Grandma Ginny and went up to the Mesa to check out the snow. Great idea! The drive through the canyon with snow flurries and a little hail was exciting for us Californians, but then we got to our first stop: Powderhorn Resort...
The parking lot and stairs to the resort were...well, you see above. The yellow sign in the window surprisingly reads: CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. We found someone to let us out onto the bridge so we could pose for the Powderhorn cam & Har could call his buddy from work and tell him to check us out {wa ha ha ha}!
The thermostat reads 20 degrees...maybe that's why Nash is shivering, Dedan is holding tight to Grandma and Har is jumping for joy.

Spring Break: Horses!

Most of Spring Break we'll be in Colorado. Grand Junction, to be specific, where Har grew up and most of his family still lives. We're staying with his sister (and only sibling), Tracy and her husband, Bill. They recently bought a great house on two acres where they have 2 horses and 2 dogs. Heaven for kids from the suburbs. The first day here Uncle Bill got the horses saddled and took the kiddos out to the corral for a ride on Zena and Zandy. It was a bit windy, but that didn't stop the fun.
